Terms for Dear Lissa

These terms are between you and Dear Lissa (“we”). They cover this website and the Dear Lissa app at home.dearlissa.com. By using Dear Lissa, you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your information.

What Dear Lissa is

Dear Lissa is a personal companion app: a small world with a fox called Lissa, where you can check in, keep moments and hold intentions at your own pace. It is free and in early access, and new accounts need an invite.

Not medical, therapy or crisis support

Dear Lissa is not a medical service, therapy or counselling, and it is not crisis support. Nothing in it is health advice.

If you’re in danger or need urgent help, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line where you are. In Australia, call 000 in an emergency, or Lifeline on 13 11 14.

Who can use it

You need to be 18 or older to use Dear Lissa. An account is for one person, and an invite is for the person it was sent to.

Your account

Your account belongs to the email address your invite was sent to. Keep that mailbox and any connected Google or Discord account secure, since they are how you sign in. If you think someone else has used your account, email hello@dearlissa.com.

Your content stays yours

What you write and the photos you add belong to you. You give us permission to store, copy and process them only so we can run Dear Lissa for you: to save them, keep backups and show them back to you. That permission ends when you delete them or close your account, apart from copies in backups until those backups expire.

You can download a copy of everything you’ve written at any time from Settings → Your data.

Using Dear Lissa fairly

Please don’t:

Our part

Dear Lissa, including Lissa, the room, the art and the software, belongs to us. You may use it for your own personal, non-commercial use while these terms apply.

Early access and changes

Dear Lissa is still being made. Features may change, pause or go away, and there may be times when it is unavailable. If we ever plan to shut Dear Lissa down, we intend to give notice so you have time to download your data.

Dear Lissa is free during early access. If that changes, we intend to tell you before it affects you.

Ending your use

You can stop using Dear Lissa whenever you like, and close your account from Settings → Your data. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts other people or Dear Lissa at risk. Where we can, we’ll tell you why.

Disclaimers and liability

We work to keep Dear Lissa safe and reliable, but it is provided as it is, and we can’t promise it will always be available or free of mistakes. Keep your own copy of anything that matters to you.

Nothing in these terms excludes the guarantees and rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential loss. Where our liability can be limited, it is limited to supplying the service again. Dear Lissa is free.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, we update this page and the date at the top. If we make a significant change, we’ll try to let account holders know by email before it takes effect.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of Victoria, Australia, and the courts of Victoria can hear any dispute about them. This doesn’t limit your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
